Double-check today to make sure you’re getting this discounted tax rate.

If you purchased a home this year as your primary residence, one of the last things you hopefully heard from your agent or attorney was, “Make sure to file an application with the county tax office so you get the primary residence discounted rate.”

If you have bought a home this year but haven’t filled out that application, your property tax bill is going to be almost 3x what it should be. If you have a loan, your escrow account will increase, your payment will increase, and the process to get it corrected is slow.

To get ahead of this, go down to the county tax office, make sure you’ve changed your driver’s license to your current address, bring a utility bill, and they will then be able to get that corrected for you.
